Lamentations of the Youth
My last semester at Wesleyan, I had the pleasure of not only performing in but also filming my friend’s musical thesis (a collection of 8 pieces of 8 different musical genres, each about a different facet of lament, that tells a unified story of lamentation).
A profound and engaging work, I couldn’t wait to take part in the whole process. It felt like a full-circle moment, as he and I met in Collegium Musicum, a class we took together freshman year. I directed the filming of that class’s final performance, which happened to be in Memorial Chapel, the same place Lamentation of the Youth(s) occurred. It’s crazy to see the development of my filmmaking and editing skills, along with some familiar faces, throughout the two concert films.
